Dr. Vivian Yeung, OD

Dr. Yeung grew up in Vancouver, beautiful British Columbia. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia, and immediately after, she moved to Forest Grove, Oregon; where she pursued her Doctorate degree at Pacific University, College of Optometry, and graduated with honours (a member of Beta Sigma Kappa). Dr. Yeung decided to practice in the United States, intending to stay only one more year; however, one year turned into eight years. She worked in multiple practice settings, including different retail settings, private practices, VA hospitals, and a large American-based Health Maintenance Organization. A large amount of experience was gained by working in a private group Ophthalmology practice with multiple clinics, in WA state.

You are more than just two eyeballs on a stick.” Dr. Yeung enjoys reminding her patients that your eyecare health involves more than just 20/20 vision. She has seen how many underlying systemic diseases can be screened and prevented by having comprehensive eye examinations. As a primary care provider, she strongly believes in emphasizing the importance of educating her patients and communicating with them to understand their needs… 

 

Here in particular, she gained immeasurable experience co-managing side-by-side with ophthalmologists, dealing with many eye and systemic diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, co-managing post-LASIK/RK/PRK, removing foreign bodies, and managing keratoconus patients with specialty contact lenses.

 

She has also been involved with Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH), travelling to help those in need of vision care, in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico and Jamaica. For many years living in the Seattle area, she was on the Board of Directors for Community Services for the Blind and Partially Sighted, a non-profit organization dedicated to those with low vision. Although sad to leave her loyal patient base in Washington, she knew that she must return back to her Canadian roots; thus, a decision to move back to her hometown soon followed, and Dr. Yeung fondly calls it ‘brain-drain back!’ She continues to bring what she has learned from the USA, back to Canada. Dr. Yeung really enjoys forging new relationships with her Canadian colleagues by opening up a very satisfying and rewarding group practice inside multiple Costco locations.

Most recently, Dr. Yeung volunteered during the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, inside the Vancouver Olympic Village. She proudly provided eye care services to world class athletes and coaches, helping to set the Canadian standard of healthcare as one of the highest internationally.
